Oh boy — more Jag rumors! Above is one of the most ridiculous cars of the 1990s — a vehicle that somehow bears a physical resemblance to cocaine — yet a car that all pistonheads love. Originally dreamt up as an AWD, V12-powered, scissor-doored track weapon with a built in roll cage, the production XJ220 was RWD, had a turbo’d V6, normal doors and no roll cage. Translation: the Jaguar XJ220 had no reason to exist. Yet for a time it was the fastest car in the world and Elton John owned one. You can’t dream up a better ubercar pedigree. And it looks like Jag wants to get back in the megacar car game. About time. According to reports, Tata is looking to expand Jaguar’s product offering. Since 2000 we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for signs of life from Jag’s F-type concept, a sleek little number (and Boxster fighter) that will (probably) never see the light of day. Except that it just might. But more likely (we hope) is a mid-engined range topper that may be called the XE. Say one with the 510 hp, 5.0-liter v8 out of the new R cars. Though I’m sure the Jag boys could tweak the supercharger to get power up into the 600 hp range. Oh yes… Oh yes. You might even see this car come Geneva. We’ll keep you posted.
