BMW 7 Series Head Up Display

Yesterday I had the opportunity to test drive the new 2009 BMW 750Li, more on that tomorrow, but in the mean time, I wanted to share with you a short video of the this new feature in the 7 Series: Head Up Display.

HUD is a small projector and a system of mirrors built into the dashboard that beams an high-contrast image onto the windshield. The idea behind this technology is to present useful information to the drivers without distracting them while driving, from the current driving speed to directions from the navigation system and alerts.

The image appears approximately 7 feet in front of you and it is far less intrusive that one would believe. It took me a few minutes to adjust to the HUD, but once I did, I had no reason to look at the navigation system screen or the speed gauge.

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

If it becomes a distraction to you, BMW gives you the option to turn off this feature by a simple button push.

I apologize for the lower video quality, but since I was riding along, it was quite difficult to be a cameraman while driving. Also, pay attention at the last few seconds and you will hear that amazing engine noise coming out of the powerful V8 Twin-Turbo engine.
